david hockney’s iphone paintings

by Nadya Arnaoot on October 5, 2009

David Hockney has been using the Brushes app for recent paintings.

Just gorgeous.
“People from the village,” he says, craning back over that shoulder, “come up to me and tease me, ‘We hear you’ve started drawing on your telephone.’ And I tell them, ‘Well, no, actually, it’s just that occasionally I speak on my sketch pad.’”

Best. Album. Evar.

by Nadya Arnaoot on October 22, 2008

By way of my friend Lori’s baby shower, I have discovered the best working album in the history of time.  I’m listening to it now– glockenspiel covers of Cure songs.  I was dubious when I heard about this album, but one listen and I was hooked.
In a way this reminds me of mash-ups, and [...]

what my brother is seeing right now

by Nadya Arnaoot on October 6, 2008

My brother is still in Syria.  He’s an artist, and has told me for years that I should be watching Flickr to see what he’s up to– but I’ve never really gotten into watching other people’s photos on Flickr.  Until now.

Google’s free screen saver can be hooked up to photostreams.  By default, it shows pretty [...]

by Nadya Arnaoot on May 23, 2008

Hi everybody,
I’ve just finished up version 1.0 of Salome, a theme which allows you to run a magazine website using WordPress.  I’m pretty excited about it; I love the format of blogs, but there are different advantages that magazines provide.  Years ago I used to help produce an online magazine, and we needed to code [...]

Unboxing the xo laptop!

by Nadya Arnaoot on December 20, 2007

This is a very exciting day- I’m writing this post on my new xo laptop!  It arrived tonight; I just opened it up and put a bunch of photos on my flickr.  The adorability factor is intense; tiny green keys, bright little screen, and charming UI.

My nerdy heart goes pitter-patter

by Nadya Arnaoot on October 11, 2007

Just arived in the mail: self-published novel with the Best. Title. Evar!

If(Sid_Vicious == TRUE && Alan_Turing == TRUE)
{ ERROR_Cyberpunk(); }

My attempts to share my joy with my coworkers required explaining every term and symbol in this title, except for Sid Vicious.
Ah well. I think it’s rather beautiful.

I’m very excited about posting my first instructable– it walks through how to make a booksafe case for an iPhone, so you can read it in public without looking highly muggable.

It’s Park(ing) day in San Francisco!

by Nadya Arnaoot on September 21, 2007

My dear friend Kim just alerted me to the fact that today is Park(ing) day. Last year Park(ing) day fell on a summer day when I was between jobs; I read about it on boingboing in the morning and wandered over to a coffeeshop to lounge in the parking spot that had [...]
